About Sri Ram Nirthyalaya
SriRam Nirthyalaya is a performing art studio for Bharatanatyam founded in 2015 by me - Rajashree Ramu. The name SriRam Nirthyalaya was kept to honor my dad Ramu Dharman, my backbone and moral support to learn this art form.
I started this initiative to teach Bharatanatyam, our south Indian heritage and culture to our younger generation.
Here we provide an opportunity for the younger generation & enthusiastic grown-ups to learn this divine art form in our traditional Vazhuvoor style .
Kids in Sriram Nirthyalaya will learn by understanding the theories from Natyasastra and stories from Indian mythology.
Bharatanatyam's theoretical foundations trace to the ancient Sanskrit text by Bharata Muni, “NatyaShastra”. The Natyashastra is the oldest surviving ancient Indian work on performance arts, it detailed treatise and handbook on dramatic art that deals with all aspects of classical Sanskrit theater. The Natyasastra describes the stage for performance arts as the sacred space for artists, and discusses the specifics of stage design, positioning the actors, the relative locations, movement on stage, entrance and exit, change in background, transition, objects displayed on the stage, and such architectural features of a theater.
